Cheryl
Cheryl is a graduate of Liberty University’s master’s program with a degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling, currently working under a supervised license, tLMHC. Cheryl works with a holistic view to develop a comprehensive plan aimed at helping individuals and couples work towards health in every facet of life. An attachment perspective is used to help individuals and couples see how relationships, both past and present, affect the person in the current time. EMDR therapy is used to help with recovery from traumatic events and life circumstances with an aim to build adaptive functioning and provide tools useful in everyday life. She is a reef aquarium hobbyist with a saltwater aquarium in her office to facilitate a soothing environment for clients.
Cheryl spent 16 years as a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling her 4 children, and homesteading on a small acreage in rural southern Iowa before beginning her educational journey. She then worked for several years as a nurse and in the outpatient mental health clinic at the VA Hospital in Knoxville then Des Moines, IA. Upon graduating with her bachelor’s degree in human services from Buena Vista University, Cheryl transitioned into community mental health and targeted case management within Medicaid systems for 10 years. In 2021, Cheryl began work as an intern mental health counselor while finishing her master’s degree.
Cheryl has been involved in Children’s Ministry in church settings since her youth. She has a passion for music and has enjoyed being a member of the worship team at her local church.
Cheryl lived in rural areas her most of her life. She abides by the mid-western values of hard work, family, and faith. She and her husband currently reside in West Des Moines. She enjoys working out, hiking, bicycling, cooking healthy meals, and spending time with her grown children and grandchildren.
Bryon
50 years of a diverse life has gotten me to the point where I want to give back and help others. I’ve started a multi-million-dollar business and have been a top salesperson in several fields. A health and fitness journey to lose 130 pounds and free myself from the crippling effects of obesity on my health and life. Family, parenthood, marriage, divorce, depression, anxiety, personal growth, dating after divorce, a 2nd marriage, and faith among other things have given me a unique perspective on life along with my training as a Master Certified Life Coach and a Gottman Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work Leader.
